Tech Desk: apps / Multi-Factor Authentication Setup

Prerequisites

Install the Microsoft Authenticator app installed on an iPhone or Android smartphone. If you    have a City-owned phone it should already be installed. If you do not have a City phone you can  install Authenticator from the app store or the Google Play store.

 

Procedure

1.       Through a web browser on a desktop or laptop computer, log into your Office account at https://office365.com.

2.       You should get a message stating something similar to "More information required". Click Next.

3.       Choose Receive notifications for verification and click Setup.

4.       A dialog box will pop up with instructions on how to configure the Microsoft Authenticator app.

5.       Open the app and follow the steps below to add your account. Once you have added your account to the Authenticator app click Next on the dialog box.

6.       Keep your phone close by to test your MFA setup by sending a notification to your device. If you closed the app you can either tap on the notification or re-open the app and click Approve.

7.       Click Done.

8.       If outlook was open during this process you may need to close it and re-open it for it to authorize with multi-factor authentication.
